Insurance dictionary
Insurance terms, explained in plain language. The exact definitions for any plan live in the insurer's policy wording: ask Iris when you need specifics.
General terms
Premium (Phí bảo hiểm)
What you pay to be insured for a period. On Insurnao, premiums always display in VND.
Policyholder (Chủ hợp đồng)
The person or company that owns the policy and makes decisions about it. Can differ from the insured, for example a company buying for staff.
Insured (Người được bảo hiểm)
The person the policy protects. One policy can cover several people (a family, a group).
Sum insured / Limit (Số tiền bảo hiểm / Hạn mức)
The most the insurer pays for a benefit or for the whole policy. Each benefit usually has its own limit.
Deductible (Mức khấu trừ)
The part of a cost you pay yourself before the insurance starts paying. A higher deductible usually means a lower premium.
Co-payment (Đồng chi trả)
A share of each cost you split with the insurer, for example you pay 20%, the insurer pays 80%.
Exclusion (Điểm loại trừ)
What the policy does NOT pay for. Each insurer lists its own exclusions in the policy wording: always read them before buying, or ask Iris.
Waiting period (Thời gian chờ)
A stretch after the policy starts during which some benefits are not yet payable: common in health insurance (for example maternity or pre-existing conditions).
Pre-existing condition (Bệnh có sẵn)
An illness or condition you already had before buying. Insurers treat these differently; declaring fully is always what protects you.
Application form (Giấy yêu cầu bảo hiểm)
The insurer's official form carrying your details, plan choice, and signature. Insurnao pre-fills the insurer's ORIGINAL form for you to check and sign.
Underwriting (Thẩm định)
The insurer's process of assessing your application and deciding whether, and on what terms, to insure you. That decision always belongs to the insurer, not Insurnao.
Claim (Bồi thường)
Your request for the insurer to pay when a covered event happens. See the Claims guide for the steps.
Travel insurance
Overseas medical expenses (Chi phí y tế ở nước ngoài)
The core travel benefit: treatment and hospital costs if you fall ill or have an accident on your trip.
Emergency medical evacuation (Vận chuyển y tế khẩn cấp)
The cost of moving you to the nearest suitable facility, or home, when local care is not enough. Especially important for high-medical-cost destinations.
Trip cancellation (Hủy chuyến)
Refunds your non-refundable costs (flights, rooms, prepaid tours) when you must cancel for a reason the policy covers.
Trip curtailment (Cắt ngắn chuyến)
Pays when your trip must end early because of a covered event, for example a close family emergency.
Single trip vs annual (Chuyến đơn vs hợp đồng năm)
Single-trip covers one specific trip; an annual policy covers many trips across 12 months: often the fit for frequent travellers.
Health insurance
Inpatient (Nội trú)
Treatment with an overnight hospital stay. The base benefit of every health plan.
Outpatient (Ngoại trú)
Consultations, tests, medicine… without a hospital stay. Usually an optional add-on module.
Territory / Area of cover (Phạm vi lãnh thổ)
Where the policy works, for example Vietnam, Asia, worldwide excluding the US, or worldwide. Wider territory, higher premium.
Entry age (Tuổi tham gia)
The age range an insurer accepts new applicants. Each insurer sets its own; if a plan doesn't appear in your results, an age limit is often why.
Medical declaration (Kê khai sức khỏe)
The health questions you answer on the application. It's between you and the insurer: Insurnao never judges its content.
